Make a backup copy of the CUPS config files, just in case. Apparently there were a lot of changes between versions 1.3 and 1.4. My printer worked perfectly with CUPS 1.3, so I decided to try installing the most recent version of CUPS in the 1.3 series. I may have found a solution by downgrading CUPS.
